Washington Golf & Country Club

Washington Golf is a historic club located in the dense, close-in suburban county of Arlington, VA. The golf course has a significant architectural lineage - the original course on the current site opened in 1908 and was designed by Donald Ross. In 1922, the club acquired an additional 40 acres and brought in William Flynn to redesign the existing layout, building five holes on the new land in the process. Over the subsequent 90+ years a variety of influences - architectural changes, infrastructure projects, natural processes and surrounding development - have eaten away at the classic Flynn design characteristics and left the club with a patchwork of styles and features.

In 2014, Renaissance Golf Design and McCartin Golf Design were engaged by the club to create a master plan for the golf course. The club requested that the plan address certain functional issues and reestablish a unified aesthetic for the course that respects its history. The master plan was approved by the membership in 2015 and the club will break ground on a renovation in summer 2018.
